Economy on the move, says Miftah

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Miftah Ismail said on Tuesday concerted effo­rts by the government led to macroeconomic stability.

According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, he said the economy was moving steadily on the path of growth. He said this while talking to International Monetary Fund (IMF) Resident Representative Tokhir N Mirzoev who called on him.

The current macroeconomic situation and the future outlook of the economy came under discussion during the meeting.

The adviser said economic data for recent months showed increased economic activity.

He said measures taken by the government had improved exports, which would help narrow down the trade deficit.

He said the government would continue to pursue a prudent fiscal policy so as to consolidate the gains of the past four years.

Mr Mirzoev apprised the adviser of the fund’s discussions and assessments regarding Post-Programme Monitoring as well as the schedule of the next Article IV consultations between the fund and the government.
