VEHARI: Eight people, including two minor sisters, were killed and 14 others injured in a road accident on Monday on Burewala-Chichawatni Road in Sheikh Fazal police limits, some 50km from here.

Reports said the tie rod of a Chichawatni-bound passenger van broke down near Lando Masjid and it collided with a trailer coming from the opposite side. As a result Mumtaz of Sangla Hill, Gulam Qadir of Chichawatni, Rashida, Shahid, Tanveer, Sakina and two sisters Nitasha (4) and Eman (3) were killed on the spot. Some of the injured have been identified as Ali, Ehtesham, Nasreen, Rasheeda, Khalida, Junaid and Mujahid. The injured were admitted to Burewala THQ hospital.

According to Burewala THQ hospital deputy medical superintendent Dr Imran, six critical patients were shifted to Nishter hospital, Multan.

Vehari DPO Umer Saeed Malik visited the THQ hospital and inquired after the injured passengers.

Police spokesman Rao Faisal told Dawn that police registered a case against both drivers who managed their escape after the accident. He said most of the injured hailed from Vehari district.
