1 killed as bridge on Kabul River collapses in Charsadda

One man died and two others were injured when a bridge built on the Kabul River collapsed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Charsadda district on Saturday.

The incident occurred when a truck carrying cement was crossing the bridge constructed over Kabul River at Sardaryab, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sayam told DawnNews.

The 10-wheeler truck carrying 1,600 bags of cement was on its way from Peshawar to Charsadda, and fell into the river following the collapse.

The two injured in the incident were shifted to district headquarters hospital, Charsadda.

Hospital sources said that all three men involved in the accident were travelling in the truck, although they are yet to be identified.

Following collapse of a section of the bridge, traffic was diverted to the one-way road of the bridge.

The bridge, which connects Peshawar with Charsadda, was built in 1939 and was in a dilapidated condition.

PTI did not take care for the dilapidated conditions of bridges in kpk, there are more hundred bridges in province which are in dilapidated conditions but nobody cares untill the bridges collapsed, CM of KPK is responsible for this accident

Every year more than 50% budget is lapsed from kpk govt and there about a hundred old bridges that needs repair or renewal. I was a staunch supporter of PTI and still appreciate their good work but overall their performance have been hardly satisfactory. Pervez khattak only cares about nowshera and his constituency as his aim is only to retain his seats. Imran khan seems to be unable to see the reality. He will see the reality after the 2018 elections. People of KPK will show him the reality of his governance.

This bridge was dilapidated conditions for last many years. Being incumbent govt. of KPK, especially concerned representatives are held responsible of this incident.

although tragic incident which claims the precious life and damage to property, but all has happened in NAYA PAKISTAN ,which PTI government is claiming to have done some extra development work and socioeconomic change. the realty for hollow claims has been exposed badly.

Blaming KP government and PTI for this is not justified. Everywhere in the world, there is maximum capacity of a bridge and it needs to be followed. Can someone explain how much weight was on the bridge when it collapsed. Was it under the allowable limit or not. There are so many issues of KP mismanaged by MMA, ANP:PPP and many others. PTI came to power for the first time don't have a magic stick to fix everything in the province. We need to be patient

Sorry to say but Govt of KPK is not at fault. This truss Bridge class is not designed for vehicle carrying 80 Ton of Cement. The stupid driver is at fault who didnt care about road signs and caution for bridges.

Any bridge built for vehicles should have no problem holding a truck loaded with 1,600 bags of cement. The bridge collapsed because of rust. Bridges must be maintained and repaired.

What a waste 1939 vs 2017 a bridge almost 80 years and in a country like Pakistan where they are assumed maintenance free. May be there are no sign posted. Nothing just sheer ignorance and lack of knowledge.

Of course PTI is responsible, who is running KP state affairs? One should accept negligence as one poor guy died... I am PTI voter but their overall performance in KP is not align with their stature. They are like others as they ignore it as others so no naya pakistan. All these politicians are same but carring different flags.
