KOHAT: The security forces on Friday foiled an attempt of smuggling a huge consignment of arms and ammunition in a truck bound for Karachi and arrested two alleged terrorists in Darra Adamkhel.

The huge cache was hidden under the crush loaded on the truck during snap checking of vehicles in Sara Mela area of Zarghun Khel on the Indus Highway, sources said, adding the operation was intelligence-based.

The recovery included small machine guns, pistols, automated and semi-automatic weapons and thousands of cartridges of different bores.

The smugglers disclosed that the consignment belonged to one Naveed Afridi, resident of Qasim Khel area. The arms smugglers were identified as Luqman and Arshad of Masho Khel area of Peshawar.

The arrested smugglers and the truck were shifted to the FC headquarters near the Kohat tunnel for further investigations.

The weapons included 10 Kalashnikovs, two guns, one carbine, nine shotguns, 58 pistols of different bores, four repeaters, over 15,000 cartridges of different bore pistols, 166 spare magazines, 49 chargers of small machine guns, pistols and shotgun.

Assistant Political Agent, FR Kohat, Tariqullah told Dawn that the security forces would share full information with the mediapersons only after completion of the investigations.
