KARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed to have killed two suspected gangsters, who were allegedly involved in gun-cum-grenade attacks during the past two months in Lyari, in an encounter in the Kalakot area.

Ameen and Adnan, said to be associated with the Zahid Ladla-led gang, were gunned down during an operation in the early hours of Thursday, said City SSP Adeel Hussain Chandio.

He said the gangsters were involved in a grenade attack that left 16 people wounded in Chakiwara on March 25. They were also involved in a grenade attack in Kalakot on April 23 in which 18 people were injured, he added.

Besides, the officer said, they had killed Israr Baloch, a close relative of Uzair Baloch who is facing trial before a military court on espionage charges. They had murdered Gul Hasan in Chakiwara and injured another person, Arsalan, in Baghdadi.

The police claimed to have seized two pistols and a hand grenade from their custody.

29 Indian fishermen held

The Maritime Security Agency on Thursday apprehended 29 Indian fishermen and seized boats from their custody on charges of illegal fishing in the territorial limits of Pakistan, according to officials.

They were later handed over to the Docks police for interrogation and further legal action.
