LAHORE: The Federal Government Inspector of Railways (FGIR) will begin from Thursday a probe into collision of an express train with a tanker at a level crossing near the Hiran Minar railway station on Tuesday.

“FGIR Mian Muhammad Arshad will hold the probe till April 1 at the committee room in the office of the divisional superintendent, Lahore. Anyone having any information about the accident may contact the FGIR during office timings,” said a spokesperson on Wednesday.

Meanwhile officials at railways headquarters said that the Sheikhupura station master and officials on duty at the Lahore central control office when the accident took place, have been summoned by the FGIR to record their statements.

Three people were killed and 10 others injured when six coaches of Karachi-bound Shalimar Express caught fire after its locomotive collided with an oil tanker stuck up on track at a level crossing near Hiran Minar railway station at 12.15am on Tuesday.
