Six people of the same family, including four children were killed as a Lahore bound train hit a car in the Gojra of Toba Tek Singh district on Sunday.

The ill-fated vehicle was crushed by the oncoming train as the vehicle’s driver failed to clear the unmanned railway crossing in time.

The train, Shalimar Express, was heading to Lahore from Karachi. The occupants of the vehicle were on their way to Sarghoda to visit relatives.

The occupants of the car were killed on the spot. Rescue workers and local residents shifted the bodies to Civil Hospital Gojra.

Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique took notice of the incident and directed the relevant authorities to submit a report on the accident within 48 hours, said Pakistan Railways in a statement. He also expressed his grief and sorrow over loss of precious lives.

The statement read that the accident took place at an unmanned crossing at 11am.
