GUJRAT: The Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi Bench on Thursday accepted the bail plea of Chaudhry Shahid, the father of Samia Shahid, a British national of Pakistani origin who had been killed for honour allegedly by her former husband and other family members at her native village near Dina back in July last.
The court ordered the applicant to submit the surety bond of Rs200,000 for his release as bail was granted for insufficient evidence by the prosecution.
Samia’ father and Chaudhry Shakil, ex-husband, were in the Jhelum jail for the last few months.
Police arrested them in the light of the forensic evidence that had proved that she was strangled after being intoxicated.
The Mangla police had registered a case of Samia’s murder against five members of her family -- parents, ex-husband, a sister and a cousin -- on the report of her second husband. Her mother and sister are yet to be arrested as they fled to the UK.
