RAWALPINDI: The Regional Police Officer (RPO) Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja on Wednesday gave a two-week deadline to the city police officer, Rawalpindi, DSPs Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal to expedite registration of cases against terrorists, otherwise strict departmental action would be initiated against the DSPs and SHOs concerned.

In a letter to the City Police Officer Rawalpindi Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, DPO Attock, DPO Jhelum and DPO Chakwal, the RPO said: “The pace of National Action Plan’s implementation in the four districts had been very disappointing during the current year.”

The RPO directed the CPO Rawalpindi and DPOs to order the SHOs concerned to register cases under Punjab Sound System Regulation Order 2015, Security of Vulnerable Establishments, Hate Material and Temporary Residence within next 15-days starting from December8.

“The performance of all the DSPs and SHOs, regarding registration of cases would be reviewed after 15-days on December 23, 2016,” the RPO said.

He further said: “Strict departmental action will be initiated against the police officers concerned, if they failed to meet their target by the deadline.”

According to police sources, as many as 105, 295 cases had been registered and 113,727 accused arrested by the Punjab police under newly promulgated laws this year.

The source said 90,996 challans were submitted in the court, while 16,085 cases were decided by the courts and 13, 606 accused were convicted.

As many as 2,479 individuals were acquitted while 68,935 cases were pending in the courts.

Police claimed that they had been making efforts to implement NAP and taking all possible measures, including search and sweep operations and biometric registration of Afghan nationals.
