ISLAMABAD: Members of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Communication decided on Tuesday to remove the chairman of the committee, Sufyan Yousuf, from chairmanship on the plea that he had been unable to perform his duties.

A meeting of the committee was held at the Parlia­ment House to review the performance of the National Highway Authority (NHA).

The meeting was presided over by Mohammad Muzammail Qureshi.

The committee unanimously approved a resolution regarding removal of Mr Yousuf from office as according to the members he was unable to perform his duties as chairman of the committee.

The new chairman of the standing committee will be elected in the forthcoming meeting of the committee.

Mr Yousuf was not available for his comments on why the committee members were saying that he had been unable to perform his duties as chairman of the committee.

Officials of the NHA briefed the committee on the ongoing and future projects of the authority. The committee was informed that infrastructure projects of Rs950 billion would be completed till the end of next year.

The infrastructure would contribute to the economic growth of the country, it was informed.

Chaudhry Khalid Javaid Warraich, Najaf Abbas Sial, Sardar Mohammad Jaffar Khan Leghari, Nazir Ahmed Bughio, Mir Shabbir Ali Bijarani, Ramesh Lal, Molana Qamar ud Din, Sahibzada Tariqullah, Maiza Hameed, Naseema Hafeez Panezai and Shahjehan Muneer Mangrio attended the meeting.
