KHAR: The students of Government Postgraduate College, Khar, staged a protest demonstration against the transfer of agency education officer here on Tuesday.

Hundreds of students participated in the demonstration to express their anger over the transfer of agency education officer Mohammad Aslam Khan from Bajaur Agency.

Chanting slogans against the Fata education directorate, the students boycotted their classes and also blocked the Khar-Timergara road for some time.

The protesters said that they would end boycott of classes only after cancellation of transfer of the AEO.

They claimed that Aslam Khan was a dutiful education officer who had brought visible reforms in educational institutions by ensuring presence of teachers in the schools.

The protesters alleged that some senior officials of Fata Secretariat and local lawmakers were behind the AEO’s transfer owing to his commitment to end corruption from the education department in the agency.

They asked the KP governor to order cancellation of the transfer of Aslam Khan.

HEALTH CENTRE: The community health centre built in Matakoo area of Utmankhel tehsil was inaugurated on Tuesday by PML-N youth wing provincial coordinator Nizamuddin Khan during a ceremony attended by tribal elders and party activists.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Khan criticised the local administration and former lawmakers for not providing basic amenities to the people of this remote area of Bajaur Agency.

Agency surgeon Dr Abdul Haq said that community health centre would help to ensure basic and emergency health services to the people of the area.

The local people welcomed the inauguration of health centre in the area and urged the health officials to appoint necessary staff, including lady doctor, in the centre as soon as possible. They also asked the officials to take steps for equipping the hospital with all required facilities and equipment.

Sources in the local health department told this correspondent that the community health centre had been approved several years ago, but construction work was delayed owing to lack of funds.
