KARACHI: Officials in the Sindh Aids Control Programme (SACP) on Thursday said that suspected HIV symptoms were detected in nine more patients at the Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), increasing the number of the victims of irresponsible operation of dialysis machines at the facility to 35.

The newly detected cases included a child, said the officials.

CMCH medical superintendent Dr Javed Ali Shaikh said five of the additional suspected HIV-positive cases were found in the hospital’s eye department.

He said operations of those patients were scheduled, however, before their operation their blood screening disclosed that they carried the lethal symptoms.
