LAHORE: Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has ordered completion of recruitment against 300 vacancies of constables and 44 drivers for riverine posts.

He also directed the establishment additional IG (AIG) to initiate the recruitment process soon to meet the shortage of personnel of riverine posts.

All regional police officers (RPOs) and district police officers (DPOs) must make sure that officials and vehicles deployed at riverine posts were not used for any other purpose.

The IG said this during a meeting held at Central Police Office (CPO) here on Monday to review the progress on riverine posts, inter-provincial border checkposts and the project of Guzara Allowance ATM Cards.

AIG (Welfare and Finance) Sohail Khan, AIG (Operations/Investigation) retired Capt Arif Nawaz, AIG (Punjab Highway Patrol) Amjad Javed Saleemi, AIG (Establishment) Dr Arif Mushtaq, AIG (Legal) Ali Zulnorain, Operations Deputy IG (DIG) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, DIG (IT) Shahid Hanif, DIG (Headquarters) B.A. Nasir and other police officers were also present in the meeting.

AIG Saleemi briefed the IG regarding riverine posts and inter-provincial border checkposts. He said inspection of 49 riverine posts had been completed and they were fully operational, while inspection of the remaining would be completed within a week.

He also said optical fibre cable with 10MB internet connection had been provided at all checkposts. All posts would be monitored in all districts; a dashboard had been established at the CPO for centralised monitoring.

The IG directed Saleemi to call a meeting of relevant RPOs and DPOs at the CPO by Friday to review progress on riverine posts.

While briefing about the Guzara Allowance ATM Cards for widows of deceased policemen and those who passed away during service, AIGs Sohail Khan and Kamran Khan told the IG that 3,000 ATM cards had been issued throughout the province out of which 85pc were activated.

The remaining cards were yet to be activated due to change of mobile phone numbers by the families.
