PESHAWAR: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Asim Bajwa on Tuesday said the armed forces are closely monitoring the situation on the border with India and are ready to respond to "any situation".

"We are closely monitoring the developments on the eastern border and we are fully prepared to respond," he said while briefing journalists after an operations and security review meeting which was headed by Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif.

Pakistan has rejected Indian allegations regarding involvement in a militant attack on the Uri army base in India-held Kashmir, in which 18 Indian soldiers were killed.

Bajwa said it is "regrettable" that Pakistan is blamed for attacks in other countries without any evidence having surfaced.

"We have always talked responsibly... we never pointed finger at others until we found concrete evidence," he said.

Rajgal given security clearance

The military spokesperson also gave a briefing on steps taken for border management by the armed forces.

He said the high mountain passes in Rajgal valley have been given a security clearance and cross-border movement in this area has ended.

Work has been completed on 20 per cent posts set up for border management, Bajwa said, adding that a security plan has been formulated that will assist with better managing the border.

He said border management would be most effective when Pakistani efforts are matched by the Afghan side.

Briefing about recent terrorism incidents, the DG ISPR said the suicide attack on a courthouse in Mardan and the attack on Peshawar's Christian Colony were both planned in Afghanistan. He said four facilitators of the Mardan attack and three of the Christian Colony attack have been nabbed.

Bajwa said deliberations are being made on top levels to ensure implementation of the National Action Plan in letter and in spirit.
