KARACHI: Senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and party convener Nadeem Nusrat on Tuesday said Altaf Hussain has given identity to Urdu speaking community and MQM is nothing "minus Altaf".

In a statement from London Nusrat said that "MQM Founder Altaf Hussain is himself MQM and the party is nothing without him".

“MQM chief has given identity to Urdu speaking community,” he reiterated.

Meanwhile, London based MQM leader Saleem Shahzad in a tweet said that Nadeem Nusrat and other leaders in London coordination committee are the real culprits. He urged MQM leader Farooq Sattar to disown them.

Later in the day, MQM leadership in Pakistan called on a meeting to discuss the situation following the statement by Naddem Nusrat.

The MQM leaders in Pakistan declared that the party has "already dissociated itself from the London based leadership following the August 22 speech".

Nadeem Nusrat’s statement was disowned by party leaders in Pakistan, they further announced that statements from London must not be associated with Pakistan leadership of MQM.
