KARACHI: Two police officials were shot dead in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area of the metropolis on Wednesday night, it has been learnt.

"Suspects traveling in a car opened fire on two policemen," said SSP Karachi South Saqib Ismail Memon.

The armed assailants managed to escape from the crime scene immediately after the attack, he said.

The senior official said the policemen were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

The policemen were on security duty with Dr Abdul Aziz, revealed Memon. "Dr Aziz has property dispute with his brother, in which one of his brother had already been killed," he added.

Dr Aziz told police that his younger brother, Abdul Wahab, allegedly orchestrated attack on him outside his house in which both his police guards were killed.

Police sources told Dawn that the doctor was provided guards as he was very close relative to a senior police officer.

The deceased were identified as Majid, 28, and Ishtiaq, 50.

"Policemen sustained critical bullet injuries which proved fatal," said Dr Seemin Jamali adding that both the constables were shot on their heads.
