KARACHI: The Sindh minister for social welfare on Sunday said that the medical social welfare officers would be posted at all large hospitals throughout the province for counselling of patients.

Shamim Mumtaz said this while visiting a rehabilitation centre set up by her ministry at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT).

Ms Mumtaz went around various wards of the SIUT, including the children’s ward and inquired after the health of patients.

A medical social welfare officer briefed her that children were being imparted education in the rehabilitation centre.

Besides, she added, technical skill classes for patients were also being organised here. Officials claimed certain patients had also been helped with monetary means.

The minister said awareness regarding organ donation in the society was need of the hour, and in this regard, she vowed to launch an awareness campaign.

In the first phase, she said, the social welfare ministry would start a campaign in schools soon.

She also met Dr Adibul Hasan Rizvi, director of SIUT, and commended his services for humanity.
