GUJRANWALA: People using Kangniwala overhead bridge have expressed concern over the 40-year-old faltering bridge that has developed cracks.

The bridge, constructed to cross railway lines, is used by all kinds of traffic going to Sialkot, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Pasrur and other cities.

Talking to Dawn, the area residents said pits had also appeared on the Kangniwala bridge road and they were causing accidents frequently. Some days back, a truck turned over on the bridge and a big part of the bridge fell down which was temporarily repaired, they said, complaining that the structure had developed cracks.

They expressed concern that the poor condition of the bridge could not bear the burden of heavy traffic and it might fall down any time.

They demanded the district coordination officer to take notice of the situation and order reconstruction of the bridge.

ARRESTED: Model Town police arrested four people for running decanting shops of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and registered cases against them.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mian Moazzam Ali told Dawn that an operation was going against the shopkeepers involved in decanting LPG illegally.

He said the crackdown would continue, especially in the residential areas, as the illegal business was going on without any security measures and many people had died or got injured in cylinder explosions.
