KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Friday directed the home secretary, the provincial police chief, the senior superintendent of police of Malir and others to file their comments on a constitutional petition filed against illegal occupation of an amenity plot in Gadap.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammed Iqbal Kulhoro also issued a notice to the provincial government law officer and put off the hearing to a date to be later pronounced.

The petition was filed by Mohammed Momin, a vegetable trader, who also cited the area SHO and the Mukhtiarkar and two private citizens as respondents.

He said he was a resident of Wazir Goth in Gadap Town. He said there were over 500 houses in the Goth, while a 1,450-square-yard plot was allocated for construction of a school, a dispensary and a community centre for residents.

However, the petitioner said, land grabbers, including two members of the Brohi community, had illegally occupied the amenity plot with the connivance of the police and the revenue department officials.

He said that the land grabbers had started construction work on the site and were extending threats to the petitioner and other residents for raising voice against the illegal occupation of the amenity plot.

The petitioner asked the court to direct the official respondents to act in accordance with law and restrain the land grabbers from illegally occupying the amenity plot.
