STUDENTS from other institutions who want to enrol for PhD at the Karachi University feel discouraged by the treatment meted out to them by the university staff.

University officials do not follow the Higher Education Commission criteria, insisting on implementing their own policies.

Candidates who have done their M.Phil under HEC rules have completed the 24-credit hour course work and six credit hours research work and who have a three and above CGPA, should be admitted. However, Karachi University rules demand an equivalence certificate from its own equivalence committee.

This committee insists that candidates should do two to three extra courses along with the PhD approved courses, i.e. 18 credit hours, which is in violation of HEC rules.

The higher authorities are requested to initiate early action in this matter.
