ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived back in the capital on Thursday after a gap of around two months and, according to his daughter, went straight back to work.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif posted two photos of the prime minister — one showing him reading official documents on the plane journey to Islamabad and the other of him holding a meeting in his office — on her official Twitter account on Thursday.

“From the airport to the office, straight. Back to work,” was her message, posted alongside the second photograph.

In another tweet, she revealed that the PM’s leg wound had not healed completely and that the PM may take a few more days to fully recover.

The official announcement of the PM’s plans to return to the capital was made on Wednesday afternoon. The PM Office also announced a meeting of the National Security Committee, to be chaired by the prime minister, which will be held today (Friday).

According to sources in the PM Office sources, on Thursday, PM Sharif was briefed about his official engagements over the next couple of days.

PM congratulates AJK election winners

In the first official statement issued by the PM Office following his return, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has extended his congratulations to the elected representatives and the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

“Peaceful elections in AJK [are a victory for] democratic forces and explicitly reflect the people’s faith in democracy. Winning or losing is part of elections, but the important thing for vibrant a democracy is continuity,” the prime minister was quoted as saying.

“Irrespective of the political divide; all Pakistanis are united in their unwavering support for the freedom struggle of our Kashmiri brethren,” he said.
