LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party has demanded the Election Commission should hold Azad Kashmir poll for Lahore seat under army’s supervision.
At a press conference here on Tuesday, PPP’s Chaudhry Manzoor, Mian Ayub and the party’s candidate Umar Sharif Bokhari said the army should be deployed during the election for Azad Kashmir Lahore seat on July 21.
They said in the last election here was deferred because of violence. “The ECP should ensure that the election should be held under army’s supervision and not police,” Chaudhry Manzoor said.
He said at least 1,500 people in the voters list either did not have CNICs, addresses in the constituency or had double votes.
“The ECP must look into this discrepancy,” he demanded.
There are about 4,000 votes of the Lahore seat. There has been a close competition between Umer Sharif Bokhari, Ghulam Abbas Mir (PML-N) and Ghulam Mohiuddin Dewan (PTI).
Earlier, both Mir and Dewan were part of the PPP.
Mr Bokhari alleged the PTI had got registered bogus votes which he reported to the ECP.
