LANDI KOTAL: The political administration of Landi Kotal on Saturday banned the keeping and display of arms during the conciliatory jirga sessions and imposed a fine on the ban’s violators.

The ban was imposed after an altercation between two groups in the offices of the political administration three days ago.

A poster posted at prominent places in Landi Kotal Bazaar warned local residents against carrying arms to jirga meetings and said a fine of Rs500,000 would be imposed on violators of the ban.

A ban on firing in the air on festive occasions and display of arms at public places is already in place in Landi Kotal. However, it is not enforced effectively.

Meanwhile, the khasadar force personnel along with Frontier Corps men carried out search operations in different area of Loe Shalman and took unlicensed arms into custody.

However, no arrests were made.

Local residents said most of the weapons seized during the raids were kept by them at home for own security and that they weren’t heavy or lethal ones.

Meanwhile, residents of Sher Braj in Malagori sub-tehsil of Jamrud have complained of lack of basic facilities in the area.

They told reporters at the Jamrud Press Club that most of the roads in Sher Braj locality, a hub of marble factories, were in dilapidated condition, while the area had no basic health unit.

The residents also complained there was only one primary school in the locality. They demanded early repairs of the road, establishment of modern health centres, upgradation of the primary school to the middle standard, and construction of a separate primary school for girls.
