KARACHI: Three suspected militants were killed in a shootout during a joint operation by Rangers and police in Manghopir area here on Friday.

A spokesman for Rangers said the operation was conducted on information about the presence in the area of “hardcore terrorists” who were planning a “terrorist activity in the city”.

“During the raid terrorists resorted to firing from their hideout and tried to escape,” he said in a statement. “In the exchange of fire, three militants were killed. A suicide jacket, explosives and a huge cache of arms were recovered from the hideout. A search for other terrorists is in progress.”

SSP West Azfar Mahesar said the raid was conducted in Meer Mohammad Goth of Manghopir on an intelligence report. The assailants attacked the law enforcement personnel when they were taking positions. Police and Rangers returned fire and killed the three militants, he added.
