KARACHI: An antiterrorism court handed down on Friday a collective sentence of 21 years in prison to a man in explosives and illicit weapon cases.

Kashif was found guilty of carrying a hand grenade and an unlicensed weapon last year in a Garden locality.

The court awarded him 14-year imprisonment in the explosives case and seven years for keeping an illicit weapon and also imposed fines on him. However, both the sentences would run concurrently.

The cases were registered under Section 4/5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908 and Section 23(1) (a) of the Sindh Arms Act, 2013 read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at the Garden police station.

Show-cause for IO

Two personnel of the Police Qaumi Razakar have been booked for allegedly subjecting an 18-year-old girl to sexual assault on the night of April 21 near the riverbed in Qayyumabad after abducting her from a rickshaw. The court issued a show-cause notice to the IO for his absence and not submitting the investigation report within the stipulated period.

A case was registered against the PQR personnel under Sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the victim at the Korangi Industrial Area police station.

Two remanded in Rangers attack case

The administrative judge of the antiterrorism courts remanded on Friday two suspects in police custody in a case pertaining to an attack at a Rangers checkpoint.

The Rangers had detained Ahmed Hasan, alias SP, and Obaidullah — said to be political activists — in March for three months for an inquiry and then handed them over to the police. They have been booked for allegedly hurling a cracker at a Rangers checkpoint in Korangi in March.

The investigating officer produced the suspects before the court and sought their custody for questioning.

The administrative judge handed them over to the police on five-day physical remand.
