TOBA TEK SINGH: A youth was set on fire over a quarrel between children in Madina Town locality of Gojra on Monday.

According to locals, after an exchange of words between children of two families, Usman doused a youngster, Zaibul Abideen, in petrol and set him on fire.

The youth who suffered serious burns was admitted to Gojra Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

ORDER: Punjab ombudsman Javed Mahmood ordered on Monday the Toba Tek Singh education executive officer and other officials to pay prize money to the students of government schools which they had won in the Punjab Youth Festival, 2013-14.

A Kamalia student approached Shahid Abbas, district adviser to the Punjab ombudsman, stating he had won prizes at tehsil, district, divisional and provincial levels but he had never received the money of prizes.

The adviser found that there were dozens of such students who had also not been paid the prizes even after passage of two years.

PROTEST: Scores of residents, including women and children, of Jugnoo Park and Wali Bhoy localities blocked Toba-Jhang road for traffic on Monday for about an hour to protest Fesco’s failure to replace transformer even after 24 hours.

They told reporters that despite their repeated complaints, Fesco officials did not replace transformer of the two localities, leaving residents at the mercy of harsh weather.

Later, they ended the protest after city police SHO Abid Jat held talks with them and assured that Fesco authorities would be contacted for replacement of the transformer.

LIFE TERM: Pirmahal Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Azfar Khan handed down on Monday life imprisonment to an accused in a murder case.

The court also ordered the convict to pay Rs300,000 as compensation to the heirs of the victim, besides Rs200,000 fine.

Convict Mushtaq Husain had shot dead Abid Ali of 679/20-GB village on July 22, 2013, over a water dispute at his farmland.
