KARACHI: Dozens of rights activists and members of civil society staged a demonstration at the Karachi Press Club on Saturday against the last week killing of rights activist and blogger Khurram Zaki and demanded arrest of his killers.

The demonstration was jointly organised by several non-governmental and rights organisations, including the Women Action Forum, Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and Jafria Disaster Cell (JDC). The demonstration was also attended by Karachi mayoral candidate and senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Wasim Akhtar.

Activists criticised the security administration which, they said, failed to provide security to Khurram Zaki despite open threats to his life from banned outfits. They also called for security of his family and urged the Sindh government to take across-the-board action against criminals and those associated with militant outfits.

In the evening, the JDC held a candlelit vigil to pay tribute to Khurram at the Numaish intersection.
