QUETTA: Two policemen were killed and eight other people injured in a bomb blast here on Tuesday.

The explosion, which took place on Sariab Road in front of Balochistan University, also injured a five-year-old child and three police personnel. University students remained safe.

“The target of the blast was a police post located in front of the main gate of the university,” Police Inspector Mushtaq Ahmed said, adding that an improvised explosive device was used in the blast.

Police sources said that the IED was planted when policemen deployed at the post had gone for lunch.

“Two policemen, who were on duty at the post, lost their lives and three others suffered injuries in the blast,” Inspector Ahmed said.

According to the bomb disposal squad, “around 2kg explosive was used in the IED”. The deceased policemen were identified as Muhammad Arshad and Tanveer Ahmed.
