KARACHI: Karachi put up another poor batting performance as Rawalpindi earned a first-innings lead of 42 runs in their second round fixture of the PCB-Pepsi Under-16 Cricket Stars Tournament at the SBP Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

After being sent into bat, Karachi were bowled out for 112 in 37.4 overs with Mohammad Taha contributing 35 and Mohammad Usman 25.

Slow left-armer Mehran Mumtaz claimed four wickets for 37 runs while paceman Shiraz Khan took 3-32.

Rawalpindi, who lead Pool ‘A’ standings after defeating Hyderabad by innings last Sunday, recovered from 58-6 to collect 154 all out. Awais Abid led the way by scoring an unbeaten 62 (78 balls, nine fours and one six).

Karachi captain Aarish Ali Khan bowled brilliantly to take six wickets for 28 in 17.1 overs with his left-arm spin.

Karachi faced just one over in the second innings before stumps on day one of the two-day tie to make 6-0.

Multan posted 230 all out after opting to bat first in the other Pool ‘A’ match against Hyderabad at the National Stadium.

Elsewhere, Islamabad rode on a magnificent opening partnership of 210 between Rohail Nazir (156 off 178 balls, 17 fours and one six) and Asad Ali Abbasi (88 off 155, seven fours and two sixes) to pile up 339-2 in their first innings after winning the toss in the Pool ‘B’ encounter against Larkana at the Bhutto Cricket Ground in Islamabad.

Larkana made a fitting response by reaching 101-1 at draw of stumps.

Leg-spinner Hasnat Abbas destroyed Bahawalpur batting with seven wickets for 32 runs in 16 overs as Lahore bundled out the visitors for 144 after opting to bowl first in their Pool ‘C’ clash at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.
