LAHORE: Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Imran Babar Jamil was arrested on Thursday for the alleged rape of a minor girl in the city's Kahna area, police said.

A First-Information Report was filed against the DSP after the girl accused the official of raping her.

Superintendent Police (SP) Model Town Capt Retd Mustansir Feroz said the accused police official was currently not posted anywhere and had to report to the Central Police Office (CPO) for duty.

He added that the girl had been sent for a medical examination. The results of the examination will be released in 24 hours, DawnNews reported.

The victim's mother alleged that the DSP came to their house late at night and took her husband and daughter with him.

She said her husband was able to get away but could not free their daughter. The DSP said he wouldn't return her and turned his phone off, she claimed.

The girl was later left at their house in an injured condition, DawnNews reported.

In a surprising move, the DSP, while being transported from the police station to prison, spoke to the media in handcuffs, maintaining his innocence.

DSP Jamil said the incident came about when he allegedly investigated illegal activities at a hotel in plain clothes.

At the hotel, "when six or seven girls came into the room, I knew that something was off," he claimed.

"I then dialled a call on my phone and asked whether my room had been arranged, then pardoned myself from the hotel saying I had found other accommodation," he said.

"I received a phone call from one of the girls at night saying that she had some issues. I told her to follow procedure," he claimed. "I asked the girls where their house was. I wanted to know if the owner of the hotel was making them do it or if their parents were involved," he alleged, without clarifying what he believed they were doing or who the girls were.

"When I went there, the father and the girl sat in my car and we went to the hospital. When I went to drop them back home, she said she was in pain and wanted to go back to the hospital. When we got back to their house, people there said she [the victim] had been missing since a day. I was told that these people are unscrupulous," he claimed.

When reporters questioned him regarding his alleged intoxication at the scene, DSP Jamil said: "Why didn't they book me for drinking then?"

"This is 100 per cent a conspiracy," he claimed.

Superintendent Police Investigation Ammara said details of the investigation will be made public once the probe is complete. A team headed by SSP Investigation Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera will probe the matter, SP Model Town said.
