NAWABSHAH: At least one elderly man was killed and an unspecified number of electricity poles, signboards and trees were uprooted when heavy to moderate rain coupled with strong windstorm struck Nawabshah, Sanghar, Nahushahro Feroze, Mirpurkhas and their adjoining areas on Wednesday evening.

In Shaheed Benazirabad district, Haji Mohib Waswano was killed and Khamiso and Khadim Waswano were injured when wall of a mud-thatched house fell on them in a locality near Daur town during dust storm followed by heavy rain.

Hospitals reported many people with injuries from slipping of motorcyclists during the rain in Nawabshah and its adjoining towns of Qazi Ahmed, Sakrand, Daur and others.

A large number of trees, electricity and telephone poles were uprooted in many areas and rainwater inundated streets.

Electricity supply to Nawabshah and other areas discontinued immediately after the storm.

SANGHAR: Moderate to light rain accompanied by thunderstorm lashed Sanghar and its adjourning areas, which brought down the temperature and turned weather pleasant.

It also rained in Shahdadpur, Tando Adam and Khipro.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Rain and thunderstorm hit Naushahro Feroze and its adjoining towns of Moro, New Jatoi, Mithiani, Tharoshah, Darbelo, Bhiria City, Kandiaro, Khan Wahan, Muhabat Dero, Halani, Kotri Kabir, Mehrabpur and Padidan.

The sky remained overcast with dark clouds and it was still drizzling when the report was filed.

MIRPURKHAS: A strong windstorm hit Mirpurkhas and its adjoining areas in the evening, uprooting dozens of trees and blowing away many signboards in different areas of the district.

People were forced to remain indoors during the storm and traffic came to a standstill on roads and streets. The storm broke the heat spell and made weather pleasant.
