PESHAWAR: A four-day immunisation campaign focusing on high-risk areas in Fata and Frontier Regions begins today (Monday).
Children in high risk areas, including Khyber Agency (Jamrud & Bara), FR Bannu (Baka Khel, Jani Khel, Hindi Khel and Sintanga), South Waziristan and North Waziristan Agency, will be vaccinated during the drive, a statement issued here on Sunday said.
Polio drops will be administered to 997,243 children through 2,964 teams, including 2,603 mobile, 284 fixed and 77 transit teams in Fata and FRs, under the supervision of political agents and commissioners backed by army personnel, it said.
During the previous polio campaign in March, around 98 per cent children were vaccinated, bringing down the refusal cases to only one per cent. No case has been reported in the region since November 2015.
At a recent polio task force meeting, KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra had expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the last five rounds of anti-polio campaigns. A campaigns evaluation report by independent monitors has called for maintaining the tempo in future campaigns.
