Bangladesh's Taskin loses suspension appeal

BANGALORE: Bangladesh's key pace bowler Taskin Ahmed lost his appeal against suspension from international cricket for illegal action, the ICC said Wednesday.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) last week suspended Taskin, 20, and left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny after they underwent tests in India to determine if their bowling actions breached rules.

The pair were reported for throwing by the umpires to the ICC during a preliminary World T20 match against the Netherlands.

Skipper Mashrafe Mortaza described the suspensions as devastating for the team's chances at the tournament, and Bangladesh's cricket board lodged an appeal against Taskin's punishment.

The ICC said in a statement that a judicial commissioner had upheld the suspension after a review hearing was conducted on Tuesday.

Taskin has nine wickets in 13 Twenty20 appearances for his country and has taken 21 in 14 one-day internationals.

A depleted and demoralised Bangladesh take on hosts India later Wednesday.

The Tigers are sitting at the bottom of Group and have almost no chance of making the semi-finals after two straight losses.

When a bowler is reported for chucking by the ICC, the related Cricket board must face the major onus, because it was primarily their responsibility to get the bowling action changed before it is reported to the ICC. They should be peanlized heavily and 80% of the proceeds must go to the chucking bowler, as a compensation for his future loss due to Board's callousness. This way, the boards will feel more responsible to select non checkers or to remodel the bowling action of chuckers, before ICC is notified.

@Fudayl Ahmad: What if ICC's decision is wrong? Have you seen Bumra and Asshin's action? Bumra's arm bands more than that of Taskin, but nothing happened to him. Its nothing about CRICKET, its all about MONEY- calculation of PROFIT and LOSS.

@Enamul Kabir, Dhaka . If this is the case then why is Bangladesh Cricket Board & Bangladeshi captain silent? Ask them why are they not complaining against Bumrah & Ashwin. Go and check if they are calculating profit & loss? I have yet so see a logical, reasonable thinking Bangladeshi here.

@Enamul Kabir, Dhaka You can chose to play the Victim or do something about it. Taskin is only about 20 yrs & will not take him longer than a few months to correct his action. Talking about India, many Indian bowlers have already undergone multiple corrective actions in the last many years - including international players like Harbajan and Ashwin. Ashwin has remodelled the action for his Doosra delivery since the last 2 yrs. So do get your facts correct before making such statements
