GUJRAT: A week-long sports gala of the Nawaz Sharif Medical College (NSMC) began here on Tuesday.

University of Gujrat Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Ziaul Qayyum, chief guest at the event, lit a torch to formally declare the sports gala open.

Holding colourful flags with their team slogans and depicting the spring season, young physicians in the making – first year Stallions, second year Mighty Titans, third year The Scorchers, fourth year War Hawks and fifth year The Predators marched past the audience, stopping for a while in front of the guests for a brief demonstrations of their skills.

In his inaugural address, the VC highlighted the importance of sports and physical activities in students’ careers.

“By participating in these activities, you can not only enhance your physical, but also social skills. You will stay fit and feel more energetic,” he added.

“A healthy mind always resides in a healthy body. If you are a better sportsman, you are also a better student and a better human being,” NSMC Principal Dr Zafar Iqbal Gill said, urging the participating teams to exercise sportsman spirit during the contests.

RESULTS: The University of Gujrat (UoG) has announced results of BEd examinations.

According to UoG Controller of Examinations Ahmad Jamil Turk, the results of BEd second and fourth semesters (spring 2015) of students of UoG-affiliated colleges were announced.

He said the news should be considered as information alone as degrees would be issued upon completion of due procedure.

COMPETITION: A qirat and na’at competition was held here at Hafiz Hayat Campus of University of Gujrat.

The inter-department competition was organised by the Hayatian Islamic Forum, a student society of the Islamic Studies Department. Students from UoG constituent colleges also participated in the competition.

“Promotion of co-curricular activities among students is one of the main responsibilities of higher education institutions and the UoG has been fulfilling this role remarkably well,” MPA retired Maj Moeen Nawaz Warraich, who was the chief guest, said in his address on the occasion.
