LAHORE: Civil society organisations – the Joint Action Committee for People‘s Rights, the Pakistan Civil Society Forum and the Women’s Action Forum –staged a rally at Charing Cross on Saturday to support the Punjab Protection of Women Act of 2016.

The participants chanted slogans in favour of the Act-2016, saying they would not allow anyone to amend or repeal the law. They urged the Punjab government to reject pressure by some political groups demanding repealing of the law.

With placards and banners, the participants said those opposing the law actually did not want to see women spend their lives independently and gracefully.

In a press statement, they criticised opposition to the pro-women laws.
