KARACHI: A young couple who married of their own free will recently were shot dead in Orangi Town on Monday, Mominabad police said.

They added that two suspects entered a house in Bismillah Colony near the Al-Fatah graveyard by breaking open its gate at around 8.30am and gunned down Safeena, 17, and her husband, Khan Gul, 22, and fled.

The bodies were taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The police officer said that the couple belonged to the Mehsud tribe and were living in Jinjal Goth off the Superhighway near New Subzimandi.

Around three months ago, Safeena and her cousin Khan Gul got married and disappeared. She was engaged to her maternal cousin Ikramullah but apparently preferred Gul to him. The police said they had lived in Orangi Town for one month but it was not known where they had lived the next two months.

The police registered a case against Ikramullah, former fiancé of the girl, and his father, Muzammil, on a complaint of the girl’s father, Mehboob Khan.

Body found

The body of a young man was found in Joharabad on Monday.

The police said the body was found on the Lyari riverbed off Rashid Minhas Road. Bearing injury marks, the corpse’s condition indicated that the young man had died a few days back.
