ISLAMABAD: The Hindu Kush region was shaken by a 5.9 earthquake that struck Afghanistan and Pakistan early on Wednesday.
According to the Met Office, the earthquake’s epicentre was in the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region and occurred at around 1:04am.
The US Geological Survey said the location of the epicentre was 28km south of Jarm, Afghanistan.
According to private TV channels, the earthquake was felt in the northern areas, as well as in northern Punjab. Many were woken up by the quake, and there were reports from several parts of the country that people were running out of buildings.
According to eyewitness, the earthquake was felt in Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Charsadda, Malakand, Dir, Swat, Battagram, Shangla, Abbottabad, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Haripur, Sargodha and Chitral.
