KARACHI: The provincial apex committee will meet on Wednesday to finalise security arrangements for Chehlum of Imam Hussain and local government polls, and discuss cases in military courts and the attack on military police, sources said.

The meeting, which will be presided over by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, will be attended by Rangers director-general Bilal Akbar, a representative of corps headquarters, high officials of law-enforcement agencies and the government.

The sources said that the participants in the meeting, which would be held at CM House, would be given a briefing on the formation of joint investigation teams; the cases sent to the military courts for trial; and the arrest in high-profile cases of corruption and facilitating terrorism.

A report would also be presented about the attack on a military van in which two soldiers were killed on Tuesday, the sources said.

Besides, they added, security plans would be finalised for the Chehlum procession to be taken out on Dec 3 and for the local government elections scheduled to be held on Dec 5.
