KARACHI: A rally taken out by the Pakistan Peoples Party on Sunday was the highlight of its election activities for the Dec 5 local government polls in Karachi.

Party’s vice president Senator Sherry Rehman led the rally, which began at the Bilawal roundabout in Clifton and culminated at Muwach village in the city’s western fringes.

A large number of party workers and supporters on motorcycles, cars and buses were holding PPP flags, banners and placards inscribed with the party’s basic motto and slogans and portraits of former prime ministers Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto and chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

The rally passed through Shireen Jinnah Colony, Massan Road, Keamari, Jinnah Bridge, Mauripur, Gulbai and Suparco Roundabout. The participants made brief stopovers at every place where Senator Rehman and others spoke.

Speaking to the people gathered in Muwach village, she said the party’s struggle would continue for the people’s cause and hoped that people in the city would continue to keep their confidence in the PPP.

PPP’s local leadership organised corner meetings and rally in various parts of Karachi.

The PPP Karachi division president, Najme Alam, addressed to the people in Shah Rasool Colony in Clifton while similar gatherings were held near the Quaid’s mausoleum, Lyari and other parts of the city.

Waqar Mehdi, the PPP’s Sindh information secretary, said Mr Bhutto-Zardari would address to a meeting on Monday (today) in Murad Memon Goth in Malir district in connection with the PPP’s 48th foundation day.
