Kasuri calls for composite talks

Published October 29, 2003

MADRID, Oct 28: Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri on Tuesday emphasized the need for a composite dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues with India.

During a meeting with Senator Gabriel Elorriaga Fernandez, head of the foreign relations committee of the Spanish Senate, he emphasized that the core issue of Kashmir, which had led to three wars, needed constant international engagement.

He expressed the hope that the European Union would enhance its efforts to facilitate a peaceful resolution of differences in South Asia.

He said Pakistan was one of the most important members of the international community in the fight against terrorism.

He welcomed the proposal for the exchange of parliamentary delegations with Spain.

The senator said the visit would act as a catalyst to promoting exchanges between the countries at the parliamentary level.

He said such visits would help the sides better understand each other’s problems and position on international affairs.

The foreign minister said a start could be made through the visit of the members of the foreign relations committees from the two countries.

He called upon Spain to help in facilitating the resolution of the issues facing the Islamic world, such as Kashmir and Palestine, as this would promote the cause of peace in the world.—APP
