TASHKENT: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday arrived in Tashkent on a two-day visit during which he will hold talks on regional peace and stability.

He was received by Uzbek Prime Minister Shafqat Marziaov and Foreign Minister Abdul Aziz Kamaliov at the airport.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with his Uzbek counterpart at the airport in Tashkent in which bilateral matters were discussed, said a statement issued by the Prime Minister House.

During his trip, the premier will hold meetings with Uzbek leadership on various regional and international issues.

A high-level delegation comprising Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Advisor on Aviation Shujaat Azeem and other senior officials are accompanying Nawaz Sharif on the visit.

A separate meeting will also be held between the two presidents in Tashkent.

The two countries share similar views on major regional and international issues and collaborate closely on multilateral fora including the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

A joint declaration and a few other documents aimed at enhancing bilateral ties will also be signed during the visit.

Focus on enhancing cooperation in different fields, including energy, trade, culture, regional connectivity, tourism and people-to-people contacts will also be discussed among the two sides.

The prime minister's visit to Uzbekistan is reflective of this priority and broader commitment to further strengthen Pakistan's engagement with Central Asia.
