Election and education

Published November 13, 2015

COLLEGE education plays a crucial role in the career of an individual. Private tuitions and coaching centres are no substitute for college life and education.

In Karachi, the session for first year classes in government colleges start in October and examinations are expected to be held in May next year. This delay in the commencement of the session is mainly caused by the late announcement of high school results.

A couple of days ago the directorate of college education, Karachi, sent a letter to colleges asking their principals and all other teaching staff to undergo a training for local bodies elections from Nov 14 to Nov 26.

Elections will be held on Dec 5. By the end of December colleges will be closed for winter vacations. This delay in the commencement of the session and these intermittent breaks would cause an irreparable loss to students.

It is suggested that the Election Commission of Pakistan should hire the polling staff from among the unemployed qualified youths whose information can be verified from Nadra, and teachers up to the level of assistant professors be exempted from election duties so that classes in colleges may continue uninterrupted.
