Two committees formed to investigate Jacobabad blast

KARACHI: Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali on Saturday constituted two different teams to initiate a probe into the deadly blast which killed 24 people in Sindh's Jacobabad city on Friday.

A high-level investigation team and a fact-finding committee have been constituted to ascertain the causes of the deadly blast which targeted a 9th Muharram procession, said a statement issued by the Sindh police.

The high-level investigation committee will be led by Additional Inspector General (IG) Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Dr Sanaullah Abbasi. The forensic division of Sindh Police will assist the team in the probe.

The fact-finding committee will comprise Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) officers from Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Larkana and SSP special branches, while it will be headed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Larkana.

The fact-finding committee has been tasked with ascertaining the cause of blast, and to determine whether any officials are responsible for negligence.

Death toll in Jacobabad blast rises to 24

According to DawnNews, the death toll of the suicide attack which ripped through a Muharram procession rose to 24 on Saturday.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah had strongly condemned the blast and ordered the dispatch of an air ambulance to Jacobabad so that the critically injured could be brought to Karachi.

UN chief Ban Ki-Moon also condemned the blast and mourned the loss of lives in a statement released from his New York office on Saturday. He also called upon the Pakistan government to bring the perpetrators of the terrorist attack to justice.

2 committees formed, 1 for investigation and 1 for fact finding.... This is IG of Sindh. So Investigation committee will not do fact finding exercise, and the fact finding committee will not investigate any thing.... At the end both committees will have different results and conclusions.
