KHANEWAL: At least 15 people were killed when a bus carrying pilgrims to Haq Baho from Pakpattan overturned on Vehari road on Thursday, DawnNews reported.

Details reveal that the bus was carrying around 54 pilgrims to Haq Baho when it turned turtle due to over speeding near Kacha Khuh area of Pakpattan District.

Police personnel and rescue teams immediately reached the site of the incident. Rescue officials said that women and children were also among the dead.

Initial reports reveal that most of the victims hail from Gujrat.

Rescue teams have been called on the spot. Meanwhile, volunteers and passersby shifted the injured and dead to District Headquarters Hospital Vehari.

Pakistan has one of the world’s worst records for fatal traffic accidents, blamed on poor roads, badly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.

In recent days, the country has witnessed a sharp rise in the number of such deadly accidents.
