KARACHI: A soldier committed suicide inside the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Museum during duty time, police said on Sunday.
The Sharea Faisal police said that soldier Wasim Ahmed, 35, in a uniform ended his life by hanging himself from a tree with a rope on late Saturday night inside the PAF museum, where he was posted for security duty.
He did not leave any suicide note and therefore the reason for his act could not be ascertained immediately, the police added.
The deceased hailed from Hazara, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

sad demise of a gentleman.
Poverty, heart broken, family problems they force more people toward extreme regrettable suicide.

@Hope , its seems murder not suicide, the person who wanted to commit suicide will do it off duty, not during duty hour. secondly soldier will never commit suicide, because he can not be coward, i think its some conspiracy......

@Hope Unfortunately, people who commit suicide often suffer from some type of mental illness. There is no way to guess what did or didn't push this man to go to such extreme measures but there are many cases of suicide also in developed countries. It is a complex phenomenon that can't be explained.

Shocking. I have heard of such incidents in other armies but never in Pakistan. We surely need to investigate the real motive behind the incident.

Home sickness may be one cause. Our poverty ridden economy have forced millions of people to leave their hometown and families to search for jobs in big cities like Karachi. No efforts are being made to create jobs in nearby places in the upcountry.

Time for the forces to now pay some attention to the mental health of its soldiers. I am hopeful they will look into it.

Need to establish first , suicide or murder. If suicide, army needs to establish death not work related. Feel sorry for the poor family, hope some comfort provided by the forces

depression, psychological problems plague army. It is best if army personnel are taken care of by professionals dealing with depression and other psychological stress.

Sad to know this. I myself feel very down sometimes and nobody cares. Depressed people need support but our society is very harsh, instead they make fun of them and belittle them.

Frequent quarrel between wife and mother are one of the reasons for suicide among men in our society but no study as characterized this as a factor as it is culture specific.

That's why we should be respectful to all security guards standing outside mosques, buildings, check posts...etc. it is not easy to do a guard duty where u stand in one place and eagerly watch the rest enjoying their lives
