ISLAMABAD: Additional Sessions Judge Islamabad Abida Sajjad on Tuesday restrained former Test cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz from issuing any defamatory statement against Shakil Shaikh who is a member of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Board of Governors and regional head for Islamabad.

The judge passed the restraining order after hearing preliminary arguments in a defamation suit filed by Shakil against Sarfraz through his counsel Barrister Masroor Shah.

While arguing before the court, Barrister Shah stated that Sarfraz maliciously wrote a defamatory letter to the chairman of Capital Development Authority and copied the same to senators Talha Mehmood and Kamil Ali Agha and chairman and member of Senate’s Standing Committee on Capital Administration and Development Division, making false and preposterous statements against Shakil with respect to Diamond Cricket Ground which gravely damaged his reputation.

The counsel for the plaintiff, arguing that by reason of the defamation committed by Sarfraz, Shakil suffered severe ordeal and psychological trauma, prayed to the court to grant damages to Shakil to the tune of Rs100 million.

The court after hearing preliminary arguments issued notice to Sarfraz with direction to appear before it on the Oct 26 and restrained him from making any statement against Shakil in the media.
