LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (Lahore) has summoned the Lahore Development Authority officials for failing to monitor the development work of a builder on complaints related to cheating the public at large.

Earlier, the NAB headquarters had issued final summons to Dr Amjad, chairman Eden Housing Ltd, to appear before it to record his statement but he did not appear.

In the summons, the NAB said: “The complaints (cheating public at large) against you have been thoroughly examined. To proceed into the matter further on merit your statement is required. You are hereby called upon to appear on Sept 23 at the NAB headquarters to record your statement along with relevant evidence/documents.”

As the chairman of the housing society in question refused to record his statement before NAB despite issuance of third and final summons, it might move an accountability court for his arrest warrants, a NAB official told Dawn on Tuesday. He said the NAB headquarters was receiving dozens of complaints against the society owner.

On the direction of the headquarters, the NAB Lahore has also decided to look into the affairs of the society. “We have summoned the LDA officials concerned to record their statement as why they failed to monitor the development work of the Eden Housing Ltd. The NAB had asked the LDA to oversee its development on a quarterly basis but it did not do so,” NAB’s Lahore spokesman told Dawn.

He said it also had summoned Dr Amjad to record his statement.

Earlier, the NAB headquarters had directed the Lahore office to hold a ‘fact-finding inquiry’ to ascertain why no complaint verification had been carried since 2007 (till date) against the builder in question.

The NAB headquarters also sought explanation from the Lahore office and informed it that this matter was already under process for re-authorisation of inquiry at the headquarters. It also asked its Lahore region office to call officials of the CMP wing of LDA to seek further information regarding the whole matter.

Besides, complainants should be called in order to unearth any other “untoward development”.

The NAB headquarters says it has received a number of complaints, including that of overseas Pakistanis, regarding delay in execution of development work and thus failing to hand over possession of plots/homes by the management of the housing group.
