TOBA TEK SINGH: A fake doctor’s ‘hospital’ was raided in Kamalia’s Chak 54/2-GB, Tukra village, on Wednesday evening where about 70 patients were admitted out of whom 15 were operated upon on the pretext of curing various diseases.

Executive District Officer (EDO) Dr Nawaz Ranjha told reporters that a team he led, including Kamalia Assistant Commissioner Hafiz Najeeb, District Health Officer Dr Khalid Mirza, District Drug Inspector Saqib Javed and Tehsildar Rana Iqbal, raided the ‘hospital’ of fake doctor Ijaz Bhutta on public complaints.

Bhutta and his staff managed to escape.

He said the team found 15 of the 70 patients admitted there had been operated upon for major diseases. All patients were shifted to a government hospital in ambulances.

He said all surgical tools, clinical laboratory equipment, machinery and X-ray machine were seized and a medial store sealed.

A case was registered against Bhutta and police were conducting raids to arrest him.

PROTEST: Scores of brick kiln workers and their families continued their sit-in outside the Kamalia Press Club for the third consecutive day on Wednesday against excesses of kiln owners.

Labour Qaumi Movement Faisalabad President Baba Abdul Latif in his address to protesters said four days ago a kiln owner, Sohail, had taken hostage at gunpoint the entire family of a worker, Noor Muhammad.

He claimed the police were informed and they recovered the hostages, but instead of taking action against the kiln owner, police took away all hostages to the police station after torturing them.

He demanded a case be registered against the kiln owner and his accomplices as well as suspension of the Kamalia Saddar station house officer and other policemen for allegedly torturing the hostages.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rana Khalid Rasheed held talks with the protesters and assured them that the police had been directed to investigate the incident and if the allegations were proved right a case would be registered and suspects arrested.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Labour Wing Vice Chairwoman Surayya and District President Sajida also participated in the protest in solidarity.

The sit-in was going on till the filing of this report.

Women rights: Punjab Commission for Women Rights Chairperson Ms Fauzia Waqar has said the provincial government will implement all the laws meant for curbing violations of women’s rights.

She was addressing a meeting on Wednesday held here at the DCO office which was also attended by District Coordination Officer Amer Ijaz Akbar, MPA Mian Rafiq, education Executive District Officer Rao Attiq and agriculture EDO Shahzad Sabir.

She said officials failure to check girls’ underage marriages and failure of revenue department in transferring inherited property to women would not be spared.

She directed the education EDO to give the permission for running canteens in girls schools and colleges only to women entrepreneurs.

She also visited the district jail and listened to problems being faced by female prisoners.

COMPLAINT: A woman has accused her former husband of raping her for one month on gunpoint.

Complainant ‘A’ of Rajana told Sadar police that her ex-husband ‘S’ divorced her a month ago over a domestic dispute.

She said despite divorcing her, ‘S’ kept her hostage for a month and repeatedly subjected her to rape.

Police were investigating.
