KARACHI: Dilshad Moavia, 40, deputy secretary of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), was shot dead in Orangi Town on Monday in a suspected sectarian attack, according to police and party officials.

Dilshad was riding a motorcycle when gunmen on another motorcycle attacked him near Noorani restaurant in Orangi Town 11 ½, said an official at the Iqbal Market police station. He sustained multiple bullet wounds, including some in the head, and died on the spot.

The victim was returning home after dropping his child at a school in the area, said the ASWJ Karachi spokesperson.

The murder triggered a protest by party workers.
