ISLAMABAD: A case against Bahria Town registered by Airport Police, on the orders of the apex court on July 24, was reregistered at Loi Bher Police Station on Saturday, as the incident took place in the latter’s jurisdiction.

The case was finally registered on July 24, ten years after the complaint was made in 2005 against the country’s biggest real estate developer by a forest department official Jamil Ahmed.

The case was registered on charges of PPC 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 382 (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt or restraint in order to the committing of the theft), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions),149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 506 (criminal intimidation), 440 (mischief committed after preparation made for causing death or hurt) and 447 (criminal trespass).

The complainant told the police on October 11, 2005 that the administration of Bahria Town, led by retired Captain Shahid, along with some arm guards of Habib Rafique Construction Company attempted to occupy government land in Loi Bher Forest. Initially, they arrived with armed guards and heavy machinery and tried to cut trees.

The Bahria Town employees attempted to cut trees and occupy land again on October 24, 2005 and when the forest department staff tried to stop them, the Bahria Town employees threatened them, the official said.

In the complaint, Jamil Ahmed stated that more heavy machinery was brought to the forest lands on October 25, 2005 and the fence erected by the forest department was also uprooted. When the forest department officials stopped them, they were manhandled. Later, the employees of Bahria Town, Mr Ahmed alleged, abducted two forest department officials, Controller Forests Rawalpindi Chaudhry Bashir Ahmed and Controller Forests North Rawalpindi Sardar Fida Hussain.

The forest department officials were kept by the abductors for two hours and beaten up, he alleged.

A senior police official of the Capital Police told Dawn that a case was registered on orders of the Supreme Court. “Investigations into the case have begun,” he said.

The complainant identified and nominated the accused, the official said, and efforts are being made to locate and arrest them.

When Bahria Town Personal Staff Officer Lt Col Khalilur Rehman was asked about the accusation, he said he is aware of the registration of the case, but does not have details of the incident in question.
